Where Are They Now Series

Designed to help youth develop and hone relevant work experience, the CAP team provides an opportunity to gain opportunities related to their career goals. Over 85 students and youth have gone through the program since it started in 2004. Each participant securing positions in desired career fields or continuing to develop their educational goals. It’s important to celebrate the successes of our alumni and showcase how diverse the program is. So we are conducting a series of interviews for a new project called “Where Are They Now?”.

For this series, we have started contacting previous CAP Team employees and seeing what they are up to. We’d like to know how their experience with Downtown Kamloops helped them achieve their success. This project is just beginning, but we have gathered a few responses so far and we are happy to hear that our CAP Team alumni are doing well.

Some Words From Past Cappies:

“When I was with the CAP Team, I began to shape my career path while pursuing my Bachelor of Arts. I knew I enjoyed writing and had an interest in promotions and business development. Through the CAP Team’s training in social media advertising, public speaking and event planning, this job was a major outlet to inspire what I am now pursuing – a career in public relations.”
–  Julia Dumbrell, (CAP Team Member in 2016). – Graduated with a Major in English Literature and Minor in Commerce from UBC in 2019

“Since the CAP Team, I have pursued a career in destination marketing and tourism. Today, I am in charge of visitor services at Tourism Kamloops. My role is a mix of assisting visitors, researching innovative and sustainable solutions for visitor servicing, and connecting with stakeholders and partners.”
–  Angela Halas (CAP Team Member from 2016-2018). – Visitor & Stakeholder Liaison with Tourism Kamloops
