Community is about union and connection. We know a community takes work to grow. By bringing positivity and a desire to impact others through new connections, a community can blossom.
In honour of this year’s International Day of Yoga, United Way is collaborating with local yogini, Natali Saari, and other amazing local yoga instructors in celebration of yoga in our community. In collaboration with Luluelmon and various yoga studios in Kamloops, our goal is to celebrate and elevate our vibrant yoga community.
We invite you to join us in a community yoga practice of movement, breath and sweat, led by a collaboration of local teachers you love! Supporting an amazing cause for Kamloops – The Starfish Backpack Fund. After the practice, explore the pop-up booths, enjoy refreshments, snacks, and conversation.
“Feeding the Future” was created to fill the gaps for local kids in need of food in Kamloops, both over the weekends during the school year and through the summer months. This unique initiative is a partnership between the Kamloops Food Bank, United Way and School District #73 that includes the Starfish Backpack program, school snacks, summer food for various programming, and also food programs in rural communities throughout the district. Thanks to “Feeding the Future” and a group of dedicated volunteers, 122 kids receive a backpack full of food before the start of each weekend. Throughout the 2017/2018 school year a total of 4,880 backpacks will be filled and distributed to local kids in need. The program has grown exponentially from 10 pilot packs the first year that the late Christopher Seguin brought the initiative to Kamloops.
