Boogie The Bridge Sunday, April 23, 2023, Road Closures and Detours
Drivers should plan alternate routes between 6 am to 1 pm due to temporary road closures and detours for the annual community event in the following areas:
Closures:
- Lorne Street at 1st Avenue
- westbound curb lane on Lansdowne Street;
- both westbound lanes on Victoria Street West from Seymour Street to Mission Flats Road;
- eastbound curb lane on Victoria Street West at Mission Flats intersection;
- northbound lanes on Overlanders Bridge and Fortune Drive overpass.
- Fort Avenue, Larch Avenue and Baker Street will be closed to all traffic from Fortune Drive between 7:30am to approximately 12:30pm
The recommendation is to take the Halston Bridge.
Detours:
A detour to the North Shore will also be available via Seymour Street, linking to First Avenue and Lansdowne Street.
Access to Mission Flats Road will be available via Summit Drive and a detour will be provided via the Overlanders Bridge, linking to Leigh Road, Tranquille Road and back over the bridge.
Boogie participants are encouraged to take public transit to the event, which is free to those who show their race bibs to drivers on race day.

Due to the current pandemic, Kamloops will be hosting a ‘non-parade’ to boost holiday spirits while following social distancing protocols. Businesses of Downtown Kamloops will be paired with designers from past floats to transform windows into holiday displays. Residents, locals, and visitors will have the opportunity to walk or drive through this “go-through” parade as they enjoy stationary floats at a safe distance.
Lights, ornaments, characters, music, and window paint will transform Downtown businesses into a magical scene this winter. Further, each display will represent a storybook page and partner with other businesses to create a holiday tale along each block. Led by a map, residents will have the option to follow classic storybook tales such as “The Nutcracker,” ‘Frosty the Snowman,” “Twelve Days of Christmas,” “A Christmas Carol,” and so much more!
This will allow for greater flexibility, diversity, and community involvement. It will also showcase our unique local spirit during the holiday season.
We at Downtown Kamloops believe this alternative will provide an opportunity for community engagement from a safe and responsible distance.

Fall is officially upon us! With this comes many things: sweater weather, pumpkins, falling leaves, and, most importantly, Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a great time to spend with friends and family. With the pandemic still affecting everything in our lives, it’s hard to know how best to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. So, we here at Downtown Kamloops thought we would put together a list of 3 ways you can safely celebrate this Thanksgiving.
Picnic in the park (with food from Salty Fig Catering Co.!)
Salty Fig Catering Company is offering a special Thanksgiving meal this year. Their full meal includes and artisanal turkey sandwich, a fall harvest salad, and a pumpkin cookie. The meal can be pre-ordered by calling (604) 290-4237 and can be picked up on Friday, October 9th at their 1428 Lorne Street Location between 11 and 1:30.
Once you have your food, you can eat it wherever you want. But, we here at Downtown Kamloops recommend a socially distanced picnic at Riverside Park.
A scenic walk through Downtown Kamloops
Though, many stores will be closed for the holiday, there’s still plenty to see in Downtown Kamloops this holiday weekend. The fall colours are lovely downtown, and what better way to spend socially distanced time with your family than to go for a walk?
Thanksgiving dinner at Cordo Resto & Bar
Cordo Resto & Bar has a very special Thanksgiving dinner this year. They are offering a three-course meal for $35, just the main course turkey dinner for $25, or a children’s turkey dinner with pie for $16. For a starter, they are offering either a delicious butternut squash and apple soup or a beet and quinoa salad. For their main course, they have roasted smoked turkey, chorizo sausage stuffing, garlic mashed potatoes and pan gravy, house-made cranberry compote, and local farm vegetables. For dessert they have, of course, freshly baked pumpkin pie and whipped cream.

The Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association would like feedback from Downtown Businesses on proposed street closures. Please take two minutes to give your feedback.
Recently there have been reports of conversations regarding the potential short term or intermittent closure of Victoria Street. The goal would be to encourage consumers to return to our Downtown while affording the space intended to support safe physical distancing.

We are so grateful for the doctors and nurses on the frontlines who have been working tirelessly to make sure we get over this. To salute them Kamloops at 7 PM PST daily have applauding from their homes. Emergency vehicles drive by Royal Inland Hospital to honour these brave souls. Stores like Mainstreet and Jardines are offering special discounts for healthcare staff. Pizza Pi has partnered with Meal Train & Kamloops Food Policy Council to support all RIH healthcare workers. You can donate $20 through E-Transfer which will provide RIH staff with a free large Pizza delivered at home. Pizza Pi has also been providing meals to persons in need through community donations. Good news indeed!
Downtown To Go
Many of our stores downtown have started virtual classes to help the community get through this crisis stronger, together. A local artist and studio Downtown Yvonne Reddick is one such business that has started virtual art classes. You can get virtual fitness classes, wellness workshops and so much more. Caremongering – Kamloops
This is a movement to spread kindness and help others in the community. Caremongering Kamloops is a 100% volunteer-driven organization with no formal structure. They are providing a neighbour to neighbour service (N2N) to connect people who want to help during this crisis with those who need it. #YKAStrong
More than a hashtag and a powerful statement, #YKAstrong is a combined strategy from 8 Kamloops business community leaders. Take a pledge to support our local businesses and community by being a Kamloops ambassador. #YKAstrong will provide streamlined communication and an engagement strategy to address the ongoing effects on businesses in Kamloops. You can also get a #YKAStrong decal to show your support during these unprecedented times.
Farm2Chefs
The Farm2Chef has started a Support Local Challenge to help restaurants connect with local producers. Their goal is to help small businesses remain open through this pandemic. You can do your part by supporting local and entering their challenge. Their first draw is on 6th April.
Parking on Downtown Streets
Yay, it’s FREE…If you are in downtown to Pickup food or any essential items you can avail of free street parking. This parking is meant only for short time customers grabbing takeout or other such necessities. We encourage downtown businesses to ask employees and other long time parkers to find available alternate parking that’s FREE in parkades and all city lots. Please consider the other stressed restaurant businesses that remain open to offer delivery and takeout.
Cafe Motivo
Caffe Motivo ran a Gift Certificate promo for healthcare workers. For every GC purchased they gave a free coffee. The proceeds were donated to Kamloops Fire Rescue.
Jardines Domaine
Jardines Domaine has curated a collection of products for their ‘Comfort Box – We are in this Together Est. 2020’. These boxes are available for men and ladies. Their goal is to raise $1000 for the Kamloops Food Bank. Of every box sold $5 will be donated. This box can be purchased for frontline workers as well as yourself.
Mainstreet Clothing Co
Mainstreet has launched its Spring package giveaway worth $1000 including GC’s from Peter’s Pasta, DIY Body, Flo Designs, K Spin and more. They recognize our community is in dire need of help and will donate $2 for every person who shares this post. $1 will go towards the Kamloops Food Bank and $1 to the BC Wildlife Park. Draw closes May 3!
