Recently, a few CAP Team members discussed New Year’s resolutions and reflected on our personal goals and CAP Team goals for 2018. As you may or may not know, the Customer Care & Patrol Team members perform daily patrols of downtown Kamloops and are ambassadors for the community in which we live. Each shift varies, and it may entail business surveys, pedestrian counts, and assisting tourists and locals alike with a multitude of questions.
This position has pushed us all out of our comfort zone so it is fitting that our resolutions have done the same. Between a morning of patrolling and an afternoon of business surveys, Jon, Keegan, and I narrowed down our top resolutions. Keegan aims to try out more activities and plans on signing up for a class at KSPIN Cycling Studio. I plan on contributing more to our community and am volunteering with events at Sun Peaks Resort, as well as the B.C Winter Games in February. In 2016, Jon’s resolution was to run a 10-kilometre race. Due to his successful finish at Boogie the Bridge, he is now training for a 15-kilometre race this spring.
Overall, the CAP Team aims on spending more time having personal conversations within our community with locals, they give downtown its unique charm. I also hope we can surpass 5,299 kilometres, the distance we walked in 2017.
On a larger scale, it has been exciting to see downtown businesses promote their resolutions. The Noble Pig Brewhouse & Pub just announced that straws will no longer be served with drinks (straws are still available upon request) in an effort to reduce the brewpub’s environmental footprint. Meanwhile, Frenchie’s Poutinerie plans on hosting event fundraisers throughout the year. In 2016, Frenchie’s donated food, clothing, and financial donations to the Kamloops Food Bank and other organizations. Currently, poutine-loving customers can “pay it forward” by purchasing a future meal for a person in need. So grab a drink at your favorite cafe or pub and reflect on what will push you out of your comfort zone in 2018!
