Director Biographies

Mike O’Reilly, President
– Caffe Motivo. Mike works in the Economic Development for Venture Kamloops. He has been Chair of the MS Society, Kamloops and Area Chapter for 4 years, sitting on the board for a total of 6 years. He was also Kamloops Rotaract President and a Kamloops Exploration Group Board member. He is interested in economic development and new business development.




Ryan Gentile, Vice President
– Big Boot Inn. Ryan has been in Kamloops for 9 years and at the Big Boot Inn for the past 7. His interests include chasing his two young boys around, spending time outdoors, and playing sports such as soccer and golf.  Ryan has not yet served on a board of directors but is eager and looking forward to learning more about the business needs downtown and business development.




Scott Campbell, Treasurer
– Campbell and Company. Scott is a Chartered Accountant at the family business and has been in public practice for 7.5 years, acquiring his CA designation in September 2012. He works with small to medium size businesses within the Thompson-Okanagan region, assisting them with various accounting and business matters. Scott has been on the KCBIA Board for 4 years. “I have been a Kamloops resident my entire life and enjoy working in the downtown area. The downtown area is a key component to the Kamloops economy and I would like to positively contribute to it.”




Gloria Pain, Secretary – Genesis Fashion & Beauty Complex (T). Gloria Pain is a sales consultant at Genesis Fashion & Beauty Complex and has lived in Kamloops for over six decades, born and raised. She has served on the board of Independent Order of Foresters as well as the Rosehill Farmers Institute. Lastly, Gloria has integrated her family into volunteering with the 4H Club over the years in Kamloops!




Shane Brooks, Director at Large
 – Stanec. Shane Brooks is an electrical engineer who has been in Kamloops for 29 years. He is interested in revitalizing the downtown core and knowledgeable with current building codes, electrical codes, and design/construction processes.





Mike Popoff, Past President – Sunias Ventures. A Registered Professional Forester and Downtown businessman, Mike is a long time supporter of Downtown Kamloops. He is the one responsible for the beautiful mural on the side of the Cactus Jack’s building. Mike is an advocate for increased investment in the downtown core in both commercial and residential development.  He is looking to provide guidance and help with respect to Business Development and the strategic direction of the Downtown core.



Dino Bernardo, Director 
– Commodore Grand Cafe & Lounge. Dino has lived in Kamloops for the past 35 years and is the owner of the Commodore Grand Cafe & Lounge. He is very active in the community and is currently president of the Kamloops Junior Football Association and a member of the Kamloops Sports Council.




Jocelyn Bennett, Director 
– National Hospitality Group (P). Jocelyn Bennett has volunteer experience with the Jasper Booster Newspaper and worked as an Ambassador with the Jasper National Parks- Maligne Lake and park information. She has also dedicated her time to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Tourism Jasper! Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, music, reading and all outdoor activities. She is currently the Hotel Manager at the Thompson Hotel.




Michael Blackwell, Director – Fulton & Company LLP (T) Mike Blackwell is a laywer at Fulton & Company LLP and has lived in Kamloops for 8 years. Mike is an active member of the Kamloops Bar Association, the White Buffalo Metis & Aboriginal Health Society, and Brennan Creek Recreation Commission Association. Outside of work, Mike is an avid snowboarder and golfer!





John Dumbrell, Director – Urban Systems  (T). John Dumbrell is a community planner and principal with Urban Systems, a multi-disciplinary consulting firm established in Kamloops in 1975, which has grown to over 400 staff across western Canada, and is still headquartered in Kamloops’ City Centre.  John is a volunteer and Board member with the Boys and Girls Club, and a past Board member with the Kamloops Art Gallery.  Outside of work and volunteer activities, John is an enthusiastic mountain biker and alpine skier.




Grayden Flanagan, Director  – Subway (P). Grayden Flanagan is the owner of Subway Kamloops and was an inaugral KCBIA Director in 2002. In recent years, Grayden has served as President of the KCBIA and has sat on the board of the Elizabeth Fry Soceity and Gyro Club of Kamloops. He currently chairs the KCBIA Safety Social Committee and is passionate about promoting a vibrant community.




Ted Ockenden, Director –
Director of Corporate Services and Facilities, BCLC (P). Ted Ockenden is the Director of Facilities & Corporate Services at BCLC and has lived in Kamloops over 28 years. He currently serves with the Emergency Management BC on the Expert Panel on Specialized Populations. He has also served with the BC Citizens’ Advisory Board to Corrections and the Kamloops Traffic Advisory Committee.




Brendan Shaw, Director – Brendan Shaw Real Estate Ltd. Brendan Shaw is a real estate broker based out of Kamloops, British Columbia.  His brokerage Brendan Shaw Real Estate, being part of the Canadian Real Estate Association, offers agency for residential and commercial sales and property management.  Additional community affiliations include: Rotary Club of Kamloops (Daybreak), Kamloops Social Planning Council and United Way Thompson Nicola Cariboo.



Grant Veale, Director
 – Plainsman. Grant is the CFO for the Plainsman Group of Companies and over the years has served on many local boards including Kamloops Art Gallery, Kamloops Child Development, Blue River Tourism and the Blue River Community Advisory. He was born and raised in Kamloops and has enjoyed volunteering on the board of the KCBIA.  Grant has been a CPA, CA in Kamloops for the past 26 years working for Price Waterhouse, NVIT in Merritt, and Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing in Blue River before joining Plainsman eight years ago.



Andy Philpot, Director –
St. John Ambulance (T). Andy grew up in Brocklehurst and has been a resident of Valleyview for over 30 years but has always had an active interest in what is happening in all areas of the city, especially the downtown core. Andy is the Division Superintendent with St John Ambulance, 627 Victoria Street and was an Assistant Fire Chief with Kamloops Fire Rescue when he retired in 2011, he also worked on the Wanda-Sue Paddlewheeler for 20 years and has been involved with the Kamloops Heritage Railway. He has served on the organizing committees of several of the large sporting events that Kamloops has hosted, the most recent being the NACAC-U23, 4 Nations Cup, and the Women’s World Ice Hockey Championships. He also sat on the Mayor’s Taskforce for the Tranquille Road Beautification/Gateway Project and the Board of Directors for the Oncore Seniors Society and presently sits on the Kamloops Sports Council and the Valleyview Community Association. Andy has an active interest in our city, especially our downtown area and the benefit it has to the citizens of Kamloops. Andy feels that he has the skills, time and commitment to give to the KCBIA.
