Fresh Air & Fresh Produce: The Kamloops Regional Farmers Market

Weekends are meant for catching up and slowing down.

This past weekend, the Kamloops Regional Farmers Market kicked off on the 200 block of St. Paul Street. The Market is in its 40th year celebrating and selling the best of the Kamloops region, such as award-winning wine, organic greens, and savory jerky. We’re lucky to have the Farmers Market pop up on Wednesdays (8:00am–2:00pm on the 400 block Victoria Street, starting May 2nd) and Saturdays (8:30am -12:30pm on the 200 block St. Paul Street) in Downtown Kamloops!

At this time of year, vegetables such as kale, asparagus, and radishes are fresh for purchase. You can also pick up a raspberry plant, tomato plant, or a range of bedding plants for your apartment patio or backyard garden!

Regardless of the season, one thing is clear-  never underestimate the power of community and the positive effects it has on your physical and mental health. After dozens of CAP Team patrols through the Farmers Market, I’ve seen passionate farmers explaining the harvesting process to curious tourists. I’ve overheard beekeepers recommending indigenous, bee-friendly plants. I’ve graciously accepted many samples of bread and jerky. The Market is just one example of how Kamloopsians comes together and support the wider community. That’s pretty cool!

Stay awhile next time you visit Downtown Kamloops. Pick up seasonal greens from the Farmers Market, admire the blossoming tulips at the Old Courthouse, and take a moment to chat with your barista or banker. The Farmers Market is dog-friendly, but please remember to keep your pup on a short leash and under control at all times.

So, how will you catch up and slow down this week in Downtown Kamloops?
